Having a doula

is a great choice I made. Many people have said to me, but you are a doula, you know what to do, but when you are in that moment, its not so easy to stop and think, ok, breath, relax, one more contraction.
My doula was awesome. She is training to be a midwife, and she was in my DONA course for being a doula. When I took the course with her, I didn't get that much time to talk with her, but I felt an instant connection with her. When my original doula canceled (whom I didn't really connect with) it really turned out for the best when I called Kati, and was able to have her there for me.
Besides the awesome labor support, and love she gave me, she really helped me after to realize that I am an awesome mom, and to feel like I really did an awesome job during Logan's birth. If she is a midwife, and I am in FL when the the next one comes, I would love to have her, and hopefully our friendship will extend beyond births, and to family, and life.
I learned a lot from her as a doula too, and hope that I can be as supportive and uplifting as she was.
If you are pregnant, consider having a doula. No matter how many births you have had, they can help make a difference. :)
Sorry, end corny post. :)

That's wonderful!

I've said similar things about homebirth with or without a midwife. Yeah, I COULD do it alone, but when you are in the middle of it, it is just different. Having someone there who has your back makes a world of difference.

I totally agree with you! I had a midwife in a birth center and let me tell you when transition hit I was thinking I can't do this. I totally would have gotten meds if I didnt have the support I did and if I was in a hospital. But im so glad I wasnt and I'm so glad I didnt. My birth was amazing, but the help you get from a doula or midwife is invaluable!
